PMLN’s new story will emphasize the roles of Bajwa, Faiz, Imran, Saqib Nisar, and Asif Khosa
Several senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have suggested that Nawaz Sharif take an assertive stance against five individuals, sources report.
The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is increasingly turning its attention to five individuals for the economic and political turmoil in the country and for bringing Pakistan to its current state through a long-planned conspiracy. These five individuals are General (retd) Bajwa, Lt General Faiz Hameed, retired judge Saqib Nisar, Asif Saeed Khosa, and former prime minister Imran Khan.
According to sources, PMLN leaders have recommended to PMLN leader Nawaz Sharif to focus on these individuals, who they believe are responsible for conspiring to remove Nawaz Sharif and his government in 2017 and rigging the mandate of PMLN in 2018 to install the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Confirmed sources indicate that PMLN is of the opinion that the party should use the narrative of targeting five individuals to explain to the Pakistani populace why the country’s progress was hindered in 2017. This was when the Saqib Nisar-led judiciary went out of its way to permanently disqualify Nawaz Sharif from politics in the Iqama case, as well as appointing a Supreme Court monitoring judge against him, and exerting pressure on the judges to deliver verdicts against him, his family, and his associates. The PMLN, according to the sources, will focus on Generals Bajwa and Faiz for carrying out a scheme to bring Imran Khan to power, regardless of the cost, which has resulted in the current situation after four years of PTI government.
Imran Khan, who was removed from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022, has been attacking General Bajwa, without naming him when he was in uniform, and openly naming him after his retirement.
Fellow generals, PMLN leaders have been critical of the no-confidence motion against Nawaz Sharif and have called it a betrayal by American agents and evil. However, the PMLN has remained silent after coming to power in the Centre as Shehbaz Sharif became the prime minister. In October 2020, Nawaz Sharif had named both General Bajwa and General Faiz Hameed in a live address from London and accused them of rigging polls to install Imran Khan’s government.
This narrative of naming and shaming Bajwa and Faiz has been harshly criticised in media circles but has won support for Nawaz Sharif on the ground. Imran Khan, on the other hand, has shifted all blames and wrongdoings towards his former backers and maintained his innocence for as long as he was in the government, thereby winning support for himself.
A senior leader affirmed that the new narrative of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) is in progress, though some time has been wasted in its adoption. However, there is now a feeling that this will be the permanent narrative of the party.
The leader stated that the narrative must target the main characters of the political events of the past six years, who were instrumental in the ‘Tabdeeli’ project. These are Imran Khan, Saqib Nisar, General Bajwa, General Faiz Hameed, and Asif Khosa, who, it is widely known, violated rules, Constitution, law and oath.
Following recent setbacks in Punjab, PMLN leaders have urged Nawaz Sharif to take a constructive yet aggressive approach to explain the situation in Pakistan to its citizens. Saqib Nisar and Asif Saeed Khosa have denied the accusation of political executions through their decisions.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan has acknowledged that Generals Bajwa and Faiz Hameed provided essential support to his party, including managing media, politics, legislators and votes in both chambers of parliament. General Bajwa has reportedly declared his support to the PTI government through media contacts and Pervaiz Elahi, an ally of Imran Khan, has publicly stated that General Bajwa and his fellow generals were like “pillars of strength” for the party, helping them for nearly four years.
Since the ouster of Imran Khan from power, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) has been criticised by its own supporters for taking a passive stance. The PMLN leadership is facing backlash from its supporters for not taking a more assertive stance against its main adversary, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and for blaming the Pakistan military, the US, and a “foreign conspiracy” for its downfall.
