Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calls for a constructive dialogue between Pakistan and India to address their mutual issues

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, has stated that egregious human rights violations were occurring daily in Kashmir while under the watch of the BJP. He warned that such violations cannot be tolerated and must be addressed immediately. Furthermore, he stressed that international laws must be respected and upheld, lest the world continue to witness the suffering of the Kashmiri people.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for a constructive dialogue between Pakistan and India to address their mutual issues, emphasizing that such dialogue is necessary for the stability of the region. He also stressed the need for both countries to work together for the mutual benefit of their people. Moreover, he suggested that the two countries should focus on resolving their differences through peaceful means, instead of resorting to animosity and aggression. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for both countries to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In conclusion, he urged both sides to focus on creating an environment of peace, stability and prosperity in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended an olive branch to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, offering to hold “serious and sincere” talks to resolve the Kashmir dispute. In an interview with Al Arabiya news channel, he asked India to come to the table and have dialogue to address this burning issue, while also highlighting the flagrant human rights violations occurring in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu Kashmir (IIOJK). He noted that India had revoked any semblance of autonomy given to the Kashmiris under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution in August 2019. In an attempt to resolve this long standing matter, the prime minister has reached out in hopes of beginning sincere and meaningful dialogue.

The Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has called for peaceful relations with India, noting that the country has learnt its lesson after having three wars with India, which only brought more misery, poverty and unemployment to the people. He also highlighted the need to stop the persecution of minorities in India, so that the message of India being ready to hold talks can be spread around the globe. He emphasised that the resources should be used to alleviate poverty and provide education and health facilities, instead of being wasted on bombs and ammunition.

The Premier remarked that both countries, Pakistan and India, are nuclear powers and “armed to the teeth”, asking “If God forbid a war breaks out, who will live to tell what happened?” He expressed hope that the leadership of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) could play an important role to bring the two countries together, and stated he would hold talks with the Indian leadership with sincerity of purpose. Additionally, he noted the strong, brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia that have existed for centuries, even before the formation of Pakistan. Consequently, the Premier concluded by emphasising the need for cooperation and collaboration between Pakistan and India, as well as between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, in order to prevent an unwanted conflict and maintain peace in the region.

Moreover, the two countries have agreed to cooperate in trade, culture and to promote peace and reject terrorism. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the tangible and substantial support of the Gulf countries and Saudi Arabia, which has helped to reduce Pakistan’s troubles and difficulties, and expressed his confidence that the Pakistani nation would stand on its own feet with the help of increased trade and investment.

‘PM can’t be permitted to sell Kashmir’

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry has strongly rejected PM Shehbaz’s statement regarding holding talks with the Indian prime minister, saying that he “cannot be allowed to sell Kashmir” and stressing that the Modi leadership must reserve the constitutional position of Kashmir to its original.
